Supplements Maker - NFPA

Known Issues:

  • Dust is both hydroscopic and combustible.

  • Back of the building is warehousing and production is on the front of building 300 feet away.

  • There is no maintenance department to change out 55-gallon drums, so we needed a large container.

  • Customer rents the space and does not own the building. Owner would not allow penetrations through side wall or roof.

  • There were two (2) production rooms with several pieces of equipment in each.

  • There was a steep grade on concrete pad on back of the building for rain runoff.

Provided Solutions:

  • Provided Donaldson Torit Dalmatic DLMC envelope style dust collector with oleophobic filters.

  • Designed collector to include leg extensions to allow for a dumpster to be placed under the collector.

  • Provided steep sided hoppers to keep dust moving through collector.

  • Provided 8 vane 10 bar rated air locks to separate hopper from the dumpster.

  • Provided membrane style explosion venting and deflector plates to safely vent pressure from explosion.

  • Connected the collector to the dry plumbed wet sprinkler system for fire protection.

  • Provided in duct isolation devices to keep pressure and fire from returning into the building.

  • Connected one duct line for each production room to allow operators to limit electrical consumption.

  • Provided custom hoods for pick up inside production area.

  • Provided custom control panel and VFD drive with air flow control system to allow rooms to operate independently.

  • Provided 80 dBA silencer and did not return air back into the building.

  • Ran duct work through overhead door to keep from damaging building per owners instructions.

  • Calculated static pressure requirements for the system fan and reinforced collector to allow for 25" SP w.c.

  • Provided fan with aluminum fan wheel (non-sparking).

  • Provided leg adjustments to allow leveling of collector on steep grade.
