Plant Seed Lab - NFPA and Make Up Air Unit

Known Issues:

  • Plant material contains moisture and oils and can plug filters.

  • Indoor air temps are 70 degrees F and outdoor air temps in January can be -50 degrees F.

  • Organic material can burn and is combustible - NFPA issues.

  • University setting and government lab requires lab to be protected from Fire.

  • Proximity of dust collector to sidewalk on university campus requires added protections.

  • Requires heat and air conditioning for makeup air unit as cleaned air cannot be returned into the building.

  • No sprinkler system in the building so Lab needs fire protection.

  • No sprinkler system in the building, so collector needs fire protection.

  • Noise ordinance in City requires silencer to be below 80 dBA.

  • Grinding equipment requires the use of a vacuum cleaner to empty small grinders.

Provided Solutions:

  • Provided Donaldson Torit DFE (Down Flow Evolution) Dust collector with Fibra-Web Filters.

  • Provided heated solenoid enclosure to keep valves from freezing in winter months.

  • Provided Fire protection detection and suppression equipment for the lab room itself.

  • Provided FIKE FlameQuench II Explosion relief for the dust collector so we could direct the pressure wave and eliminate the resulting flame due to proximity to the sidewalk.

  • Provided CO2 System for fire protection on Dust collector.

  • Provided Boss Equipment America Fire Break Shutters to keep CO2 inside the dust collector.

  • Provided pressure sensors and heat detection inside the dust collector.

  • Provided pressure isolation for ductwork coming into/out of the dust collector.

  • Provided 8 vane 10 bar rated air lock to separate hopper from the collected dust in the 55-gallon drums.

  • Used flanged leak free pipe outside and clamp together duct indoors.

  • Provided ATEX rated Delfin Industrial DG50 explosion protected industrial vacuum cleaner to clean grinders and Lab.

  • Provided Make Up air unit that can heat and cool the space while keeping the lab from becoming negatively pressurized.

  • Provided New Ingersoll Rand Screw air compressor to service the lab and the dust collectors filter cleaning system.

  • Provided desiccant regenerative air dryer to keep moisture out of the compressed air lines going outside to dust collector.

  • Provided 70 dBA silencer to meet or exceed noise ordinance in the city.

  • Provided custom control cabinet and VFD Drive with air flow control system.

  • Provided barometric and temperature sensors to regulate make up air unit and dust collector.
